Pride Month is linked to the Stonewall uprising in New York in 1969.
The first pride march took place in New York on June 28, 1970, to celebrate the first anniversary of the riots. Since then, the month of June has become a commemoration of the pursuit of equality and justice for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer community, and a celebration of their achievements around the world.
